CHAPTER 9 THE LIST

In Downtown Atlanta, Brandon checked his account balance. The fifteen hundred dollars looked depressing on the receipt the ATM dispensed. He didn’t have any income coming in and he needed to get the fuck out of Chad’s place. The short time Brandon had been there, he grew an extreme dislike for him. When he couldn’t see Chad he missed him to death, but when he got him back he couldn’t wait to get rid of him. Why the fuck did I even come down here, Brandon thought to himself for what seemed like the hundredth time.

Earlier that day Brandon went to the clinic for a check up. He didn’t have any STD’s, but the annoying nurse told him he would have to wait a week for his HIV results to come back. He thought the lady was a pest because she asked him more than twice if he was bisexual. It bothered him how some women could tell easily than others.

In Brandon’s mind there was nothing to wait for; he had already considered himself infected. He had Chad’s car for a few more hours so he had decided to make good use of it. An hour later he found himself at the Department of Motor Vehicles filling out paperwork for a Georgia State Driver’s license. The wait was a lot shorter than he expected. Before he knew it his number was being called. Dressed down in a tan business suit, looking professional, Brandon strolled up to his assigned service desk and handed his paper to a short light skinned girl with full lips and greenish eyes.

She smiled at the attractive man. “Hello, what can I do for you today?” she asked. Brandon saw the look in her eyes. He saw the look that he was all too familiar with. It was the look that told him when a female potentially wanted to get to know him. He smiled back at her. “I need a Georgia Driver’s License, Miss. That’s all.”

“Okay, I can help you with that. How long have you been here?” the woman asked.

“Here? About 20 minutes, I think.”

“No, in Georgia,” she giggled.

“Oh wow,” he grinned and shook his head. “Almost a week now. You have to excuse me; my mind is in the clouds.”

“Well, welcome to Atlanta. Maybe I shouldn’t be so nosy. I hope I didn’t scare you.” She said, looking through his paperwork. “I see you’re from New York.”

“Yeah, I needed a change of scenery.”

“My bad, I’m asking you all these questions and you don’t know me from a hole in the wall. I’m Candace, nice to meet you Brandon.” She introduced herself and continued to process his paperwork.

“Nice to meet you too, Candace.” Brandon smiled at the girl, reaching out take his paperwork from her.

“This is how I know your name. Don’t look at me that way,” she joked with Brandon. “That will be 25 dollars.”

Brandon swiped his credit card. “So, Candace when you get time maybe you can show me around town.
